Parajets at the Sultan Sea

Today, we packed a lunch and headed to the Sultan Sea.......they were having a parajet competition. It was a fun event to watch: competitions involving acute sailing skills to circle a pattern of markers and to take off and land without any part of your craft touching the ground. Quite a group of competitors. A great day to be outside and observe. I think we were 15 years younger, we would do it, too.

Instead we ate our lunch and took pictures!

A Perfect Slip and Slide

Our friends, John and Lavonna are here from Phoenix. We intended to spend a couple of days golfing and a couple of days at the Bob Hope Classic, watching the pros golf. Well, plans have changed. We had a great birthday dinner with friends, The Wilsons last night. Shirley Wilson is an awesome cook. Today, we decided it is a perfect day for a Movie, "It's Complicated" and then dinner at the club. Maybe followed by a rousing game of Mexican train. We will see what tomorrow brings. The plan is to golf. (Lavonna and I may go treasure hunting)

The STORM of the decade, drip, drop, splash

Rain drops keep falling on our heads........The golf course in front of our house will soon be turning into waterfront property and we will trade in the clubs for a Jet Ski! or perhaps, water polo? Anyway, the ducks are lovin' it and reporters are filling the front pages with news of the Storm. Now, having spent 50 years of my life in Seattle, to my mind this is a far cry from a storm.

Thanks for the memories........

Bob and I finished our volunteer stint for the Bob Hope Classic Golf Tournament. Although there is some altruism on our part, the tournament raises a lot of money for many charities in the Valley, we were also encouraged by the suggestion that we would be providing prizes to the Pros and Celebrities who participate. So, with great hopes of seeing Kurt Russel, Craig T. Nelson, Alice Cooper, Craig Kinnear, etc up close and personal, it isn't the case. The Celebrities stay home and send their "person" to pick up their gifts! We did see Yogi B, William DeVane, and do get to watch them play golf. And, we did get up close and personal to Bob Hope. The pros and celebs play for free, the amateurs pay up to $50,000 to participate. I have, yet, to play a round of golf that I feel is worth $50 let alone $50,000, unless maybe I could pair up with Samuel L. Jackson or Kurt Russell. (I wonder if Goldie plays golf?) Any way, we had a good time. Back in the day this valley was full of celebs, but now days, they need bodyguards and tend to stay inside the very upscale, walled and guarded clubs and hotels. Every once in awhile you hear of a star sighting. I did sit by Dan Quale in the airport bar one day while waiting for my plane. However, although I recognized him as someone I know, I couldn't think of who he was. No one else, including bartender and waiters, knew who he was either. Finally, my dear husband, Bob, said "I know you, ...Linda, who is he?" I said, not being able to come up with his name, "You were the Vice President" and he said, "How do you do, I'm Al Gore" to which I replied, "No you're not, your Dan Quale!" Can you imagine having been the Vice President of the U.S. and no one in the room with you can remember your name? I guess I could have said "You are the guy who couldn't spell Tomato (or was it Potato)

Bob and Linda go Biking

Santa brought us some biking gear!

So, New Year's Resolution......get movin'. We donned our new bike pants, helmets, and headed out for a bike ride. Thirteen miles later, I could barely walk. Can't imagine biking without those padded pants. I think Santa should have brought me a new heavily padded bike seat. I would have taken pictures, but capturing us in those tight shorts wouldn't be pretty. You know how women, as they age, say "I am looking more like my mother everyday", well, not me. I am looking more like my brothers! Maybe I should have done that Hormone Replacemnt Therapy thing. So, now we can walk, bike, swim and golf and if that doesn't lower the cholesterol and blood pressure, then I am going to give it all up and take up surfing........that would be Channel surfing.
